Genealogy Investigation Service

http://www.euskosare.org/sustraien_bila/genealogy_investigation_service

Eusko Ikaskuntza – The Basque Studies Society provides the opportunity to learn about your origins through its Genealogy Investigation Service.

We believe each family history is unique and unrepeatable, thus, our main objectives are based on providing personalized attention, professional advice, transparency and commitment.

Investigations will vary according to the amount of generations studied. These may be extended according to interest and the existence of parish records, with the year 1550 as the limit for investigations since parish records were only generalized that year with the signing of the Council of Trent.

How do we work?
When beginning a genealogical investigation we resort to the parish records of baptisms, marriages and deaths in each municipality. We also visit the archives in which notarial documents are kept and we consult the pertinent bibliographical sources.

In the cases in which it is required, field work is performed and if the house of origin is identified using the family tree, it is photographed.

What do we offer?

  • The Genealogic Family Tree.
  • Copies of all documentation obtained during the investigation certified by the archive that stores them.
  • If it exists, the shield corresponding to the family surname accompanied by its heraldic description.
  • Investigation on the origin of surnames and family shields. This provides information on the origin, etymology, geographical roots, variations, famous personalities and heraldry of each surname.
  • Digital photographs of the original houses, geographical surroundings, etc.
